For years, rumours have swirled about the nature of Whitney Houston’s relationship with her childhood friend Robyn Crawford.
Crawford worked as Houston’s personal assistant for more than a decade, before clashes with Bobby Brown forced her to leave the star’s entourage.
A new documentary by Nick Broomfield offers a sensitive, thoughtful response to the rumours of their affair; using never-before-seen footage taken throughout Houston’s tumultuous life.
The film was made without the co-operation Houston’s family, or Crawford herself, giving Broomfield the ability “to tell the real story”.
He spoke to BBC Music reporter Mark Savage about the film, the relationship, and Houston’s tragic death.
