A MAN with the same name as a convicted paedophile has received hundreds of abusive comments on Twitter in a horrible case of mistaken identity.
British businessman Ian Watkins, 56, is unlucky enough to share the same name as former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, who was convicted last month on a string of child sex offences.
Despite including “Not from the Lost Prophets” in his Twitter bio and using the hashtags #checkthebio, #shouldhavegonetospecsavers and #engagebrainb4usingkeyboard, Mr Watkins has received a torrent of derogatory tweets from people confusing him with the convicted paedophile, reports
The Daily Mail
One Twitter commenter called him a “vile person”, to which he replied: “I thought I was pretty decent”.
When another person suggested he change his account name, he said: “Why? Because there’s some jerks out there? They need to grow up.”
He responded to many of the offensive comments by referring them to the Lostprophets singer’s Twitter account.
.@ianwatkins have a nice time in prison you idiot !!!

In response to the furore, the British company director said: “The inability to differentiate between a rock star Welshman and a slightly balding fattish bloke is beyond some people.
“The saying ‘stupidity is not a handicap, park elsewhere’ always springs to mind when dealing with these people”.
Another man by the name of Ian Watkins, a singer in the UK band Steps was also recently caught up in a similar case of mistaken identity.
His photo has appeared alongside stories about the Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, despite the fact that he is entirely innocent.
The London High Court issued him a public apology on behalf of entertainment news site E! Online for the “distress and damage” the publishing mistake caused.
