Business rate complement ‘not fit for purpose’

Enterprises are about to start profitable a new set of business rates after a initial revaluation in 7 years.

It’s suspicion that 500,000 tiny businesses, shops, pubs, GP surgeries and schools will be influenced – some will have increases, others will see a fall.

Helen Dickinson, arch executive of a British Retail Consortium, told Radio 4’s Today programme that a complement was “not fit for purpose in a 21st century”.
